Call for Applications!

The Texas Association of Healthcare Facilities Management (TAHFM) is hosting its annual statewide competition among hospitals and other healthcare facilities to save energy and protect the climate. Competitors will work off the waste through improvements in energy efficiency with help from TAHFM, ASHE, and the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® program. The facilities that shed the most energy waste will be recognized as the winners. TAHFM is offering recognition to members who help their buildings become top energy and water savers! Don’t miss out on this event—apply by May 15!

Applications open from January - May each year

TAHFM’s competition pits hospitals and MOBs from across the state against each other in a competition to see who can trim their energy waste the most. Competitors submit their previous year's energy use information to TAHFM during the application period and then work to improve efficiency during the current calendar year. The competitors that reduce their energy use the most on a percentage basis will be recognized by TAHFM as the winners. Recognition will be given to any facility that saves the most energy and/or water in their TAHFM region, including an overall Texas winner for hospitals.

An organization can nominate one or more of the healthcare facilities they own or manage in Texas. Any type of healthcare facilitiy is eligible to compete, as long as it has been benchmarked in EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and submits complete energy use information for the previous calendar year (1/1 - 12/31) by May 15. See the rules of the game on the reverse side.

Energy use intensity, or EUI, represents the amount of energy consumed per square foot by a building annually. When an organization benchmarks a building’s energy use in Portfolio Manager, the tool automatically calculates the building’s EUI, among other metrics, and normalizes for local weather. The competition will compare a building’s EUI between two 12-month periods. The competitors that demonstrate the greatest percent-based reduction in weather-normalized EUI across these two periods will be recognized as a winner at TAHFM Interlink.

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in brainstorming sessions, use free competition creative materials and logos. Winners will receive widespread fame and free registration at the TAHFM Interlink conference. TAHFM, ASHE, and ENERGY STAR will promote the competition.

Applying is easy. Visit our special competition web page for step-by-step instructions on how to nominate one, several, or all of the hospitals and MOBs in your portfolio using a Portfolio Manager report.
