As managers, maintaining a proactive approach to maintenance is paramount. In order to fulfill all of the necessary accreditation standards a facility manager must be aware of any and all associated risks in a healthcare environment. One particular risk is when utility power becomes suspect and there is a definitive need for back up power. Can you depend on that back up power in emergency situations? One of the most neglected assets to back up generator power is the health of your fuel. Countless supervisors disregard the critical attention that should be given to today's Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel. The EPA began regulating sulfur in diesel in 1993 and diesel standards have evolved as a result. If not treated properly, today's diesel fuel can cause a myriad of problems to your tank and generator components and capabilities. We will discuss the pros and cons of today's diesel, biodiesel and what happens when you neglect this critical asset. We will also discuss how to best prevent catastrophic issues with your diesel fuel supply.
