Abstract Content
Ensuring life safety compliance in healthcare facilities is increasingly complex, particularly concerning fire doors, smoke and fire barriers, wire management, and anti-ligature devices. A reactive approach to compliance issues often leads to costly oversights
and inefficiencies, with improper penetrations in barriers frequently cited during inspections. This session will emphasize the necessity of a proactive management strategy for these critical safety elements.
By implementing a comprehensive barrier management standard, facilities can document and monitor all aspects of their fire and smoke barrier systems. This includes tracking contractors' work, managing wire penetrations, and ensuring the integrity
of anti-ligature devices. A well-structured permitting program and ongoing documentation and quality control provide a roadmap for maintaining compliance.
Session Description
We will discuss how leveraging a proactive protocol can simplify inspections and improve overall compliance, ultimately safeguarding patients and staff. Through real-world examples, we’ll explore the successful implementation of barrier management strategies
across various facilities nationwide, demonstrating how these practices lead to enhanced life safety compliance while conserving resources amidst tightening budgets and regulatory demands.
