In this first of a series of basic skills and educational development for the healthcare facility professional, the curriculum will provide an overview of codes, standards, and best practices that are designed to better orient the future healthcare leader to the regulatory knowledge and basic physics associated with managing a complex healthcare facility. Specialized instruction will be provided in Regulatory Codes/Standards, the basics of Psychrometrics, building controls, and energy management best practices, all as they relate to managing the physical environment and MEP infrastructure of a hospital or healthcare facility.

Course Objectives

  • Learn the specific requirements of Texas Department of State Health Services HVAC air ventilation rates and filtration requirements for a healthcare occupancy.
  • Associate key requirements of The Joint Commission’s and DNV’s quality standards as related to maintaining Healthcare facilities.
  • Learn the principles of HVAC infrastructure systems in a healthcare building; their control systems, the physical properties of moisture and air, and best practices to improve your facility’s energy efficiency.
  • Participate in hands-on exercises working out solutions to common Operating Room HVAC temperature/humidity concerns utilizing a Psychrometric Chart.
Target Audience
Facility Management Professional new to the Healthcare Environment and future skilled trade professionals with a desire to move into a supervisory or management role.
